- Alexandra Fusai 2002 History
-
- Sunday 9/8/02
- This coming week, Alexandra is in Bordeaux, France, Europe, at the Open Gaz de France d'Aquitaine, a $75000+H type ITF event, playing Main Draw Singles and Doubles. (I'm told that the "+H" means that hotel accomodations for the players are provided gratis by the tournament.)
- In 1st Round Singles it will be Alexandra Fusai (unseeded) vs. Celine Beigbeder (seeded #8, WTA-ranked #147), scheduled for 6pm (local time) tomorrow (the last match of the day).
- Although only a bit younger than Alexandra, Beigbeder is just recently touring full-time, but with considerable success. This looks like a nice challenge for Alexandra.
- Win, Alexandra, WIN! Allez Fusai!
- In Doubles, Alexandra is teaming with Selima Sfar, a good player. In 1st Round, they will face a team moving into Main Draw from Qualifying, maybe Tuesday.
- Win, Fusai/Sfar, WIN! Allez Fusai/Sfar!
- (By the way, Bordeaux makes some VERY GREAT wine! For celebrating after wins, Alexandra!)
-
- Monday 9/9/02
- Well, Alexandra did not have a good day in Bordeaux today, on the court at least. Oh well.... Of course, I hope she had a GREAT day off-court!
- In 1st Round Singles at the Open Gaz de France d'Aquitaine it was Celine Beigbeder (seeded #8) d. Alexandra Fusai (unseeded): 6-2, 6-2 (possibly 6-2, 6-3). Oh well....
- It may be that Alexandra just had a bad day, but it may be more likely that Beigbeder is quite a good player, and we will be hearing more from her. Well, whatever.... Maybe we'll see?
- Not an upset - but even so: oh well....
- So now it's DOUBLES TIME!
- In 1st Round Doubles, the team of Alexandra Fusai/Selima Sfar (seeded #4) will face the Qualified team of Aniko Kapros/Rosa Maria Sitja, tomorrow around 3pm, local time.
- This will be an opportunity for Fusai/Sfar to show what they are capable of, especially in smarts and skill and spirit, and give the crowd a Good Show!
- Win, Fusai/Sfar, WIN! Allez Fusai/Sfar!
-
- Tuesday 9/10/02
- Well, Alexandra had another tough day on the court in Bordeaux today. Oh well....
- In 1st Round Doubles at the Open Gaz de France d'Aquitaine it was Aniko Kapros/Rosa Maria Sitja (Q) d. Alexandra Fusai/Selima Sfar (seeded #4): 6-2, 7-5. Oh well....
- These things happen. It's sport.
- My prediction is this: Alexandra will have another EXCELLENT Tournament (like Family Circle, earlier this year, for instance) VERY SOON!
- ALLEZ FUSAI!!!
-
- Friday 9/27/02
- Alexandra got a couple of good wins today! YEA!
- This weekend, Alexandra is playing in Toulouse, France, Europe, at the French Team Championships. Alexandra is playing for the Racing Club de France (Paris). There are 8 teams participating. Half played yesterday and half played today. The winners from yesterday and today then play tomorrow, and tomorrow's winners play Sunday for the Championship.
- Each contest between teams consists of 5 Singles matches and 2 Doubles matches. Alexandra is playing both Singles and Doubles. Today it was R.C. de France (Par) vs. Tennis Club Deodatien (Lorraine). R.C. de France (Par) advanced, winning 3 of 5 Singles and both Doubles. YEA!
- In Singles, it was Alexandra Fusai defeated Magalie Lamarre: 6-2, 6-2. YEA! In Doubles, it was nostalgia-time, as the historic and legendary team of Alexandra Fusai/Nathalie Tauziat defeated Debby Haak/Magdalena Zdenovcova: 6-3, 6-2. DOUBLE YEA!!
- And here's a picture!
- Tomorrow will be R.C. de France (Par) vs. Tennis Club de Paris.
- Allez Paris Racing Club! Allez Fusai/Tauziat!
- ALLEZ FUSAI!!!
-
- Saturday 9/28/02
- Good news from Toulouse!
- Today, at the French Club Championships in Toulouse, France, Europe, it was Racing Club de France (Paris) (including Alexandra Fusai) d. Tennis Club de France (Paris), to advance to tomorrow's Finals. YEA!
- Like yesterday, Alexandra played both Singles and Doubles today. In Singles, it was Alexandra Fusai d. Stephanie Foretz (WTA ranked #73, by the way): 6-4, 6-3. YEA! (Overall, Racing won 3 of 5 in Singles and 1 of 2 in Doubles.)
- In Doubles, the result is somewhat mysterious. It was Alexandra Fusai/Nathalie Tauziat vs. Stephanie Foretz/Emilie Loit. It looks like Foretz/Loit took the 1st set 7-6(7-1), then Fusai/Tauziat led the 2nd set 2-1, then the match was abandoned. This may have been because the contest was already decided (in R.C.'s favor, of course), or it may be because someone was injured (presumably Nathalie or Alexandra, I suppose), or it may be for some other reason (darkness?). Hopefully, it was not injury, for anyone, of course! Perhaps tomorrow's lineups will provide some clue....
- The Final tomorrow will be R.C. de France (Par) vs. the "home team" of Stade Toulousain (Pyrenees).
- Allez Paris Racing Club! Allez Fusai/Tauziat!
- ALLEZ FUSAI!!!
-
- Sunday 9/29/02
- More good news from Toulouse!
- Today, in Toulouse, France, Europe, the team of which Alexandra is a member, Racing Club de France (Paris), defeated the "home" team of Stade Toulousain (Pyrenees) in the Final of the French Club Championships. YEA!
- For Alexandra, personally, however, it was not a winning day. In Singles it was Maria-Elena Camerin d. Alexandra Fusai: 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Oh well.... And in the Doubles, it was Maria-Elena Camerin/Tathiana Garbin d. Alexandra Fusai/Nathalie Tauziat: 3-6, 6-1, abandoned.
- But that's not the whole story. Alexandra's Singles wins yesterday and Friday were important to the success of the team, as was the Doubles win on Friday. And a report on the tournament web site indicates that today's Doubles "was ended" when the outcome of the contest was decided by the result of the other Doubles. Probably that's what happened yesterday also (ie. no injury, fortunately).
- So it seems Alexandra had 3 wins, 1 loss, and 2 "whatever". That's OK! And her team won! YEA!
- Here's a picture of the winning team. Alexandra seems to have her wonderful grin! YEA!
- Allez Fusai!
-
- Friday 10/11/02
- This coming week, Alexandra is in Bratislava, Slovakia, Europe, at the Eurotel Slovak Indoor VUB Open (or something like that).
- In 1st Round Qualifying, scheduled for tomorrow, it will be Alexandra Fusai (unseeded, WTA ranked #199) vs. Zuzana Kukova (unseeded, WTA ranked #211) of Slovakia.
- The "local" Kukova will probably be the crowd favorite, at least at first, but, regardless of the outcome, I strongly suspect that the crowd will all be Fusai fans, before the end (even if they also remain Kukova fans).
- Unless Kukova's current ranking is as absurd as Alexandra's current ranking, this should be a very winnable match for Alexandra.
- Win, Alexandra, WIN!
- Allez Fusai!
-
- Saturday 10/12/02
- Good News from Bratislava!
- In 1st Round Qualifying at the Eurotel Slovak Indoor VUB Open (or whatever), it was Alexandra Fusai (unseeded, WTA ranked #199) d. Zuzana Kukova of Slovakia (unseeded, WTA ranked #211): 6-2, 6-3. YEA!
- Although not particularly surprising, this is a VERY NICE WIN which I like A LOT!
- The 2nd Round looks to be a bit more of a test for Alexandra. Scheduled for tomorrow, it will be Alexandra Fusai (unseeded, WTA ranked #199) vs. Ludmila Cervanova of Slovakia (seeded #2, WTA ranked #89).
- The "local", Cervanova, will have her partisans in the crowd, but Alexandra will undoubtedly also have many fans there, especially those who saw her great Beauty and Spirit in Round #1.
- The ranking and seeding differences will make Alexandra the "challenger" in this match - although I see this as another certainly "winnable" one for Alexandra, although perhaps not "easily" (are they ever?).
- Regardless of the outcome, Alexandra will surely acquire many new fans - and that's a Good Thing!
- Win, Alexandra, WIN!
- Allez Fusai!
-
- Sunday 10/13/02
- Well, some good news, and some not-so-good news, from Bratislava....
- The not-so-good news is that in 2nd Round Singles Qualifying it was Alexandra Fusai (unseeded, WTA ranked #199) vs. Ludmila Cervanova (seeded #2, WTA ranked #89, and a Slovak "local"), and Cervanova prevailed: 6-4, 6-3. Oh well....
- This is not a "shocking" result, certainly, as Cervanova seems to be a good player, deserving of her ranking, and the crowd may have tended to support the "local" (although, Alexandra probably had many fans there also, especially those who saw her win yesterday).
- The good news is this: now it's DOUBLES TIME!
- Alexandra is teaming with Kristie Boogert, and they are seeded #4. Kristie is a good player - this team has some real possibilities!
- In 1st Round, tomorrow, it will be Fusai/Boogert vs. Maja Matevzic/Henrieta Nagyova (Nagyova is another "local").
- Win, Fusai/Boogert, WIN!
- Allez Fusai! Allez Fusai/Boogert!
-
- Monday 10/14/02
- Well, some not-good news from Bratislava....
- It looks like the team of Alexandra Fusai/Kristie Boogert was perhaps not quite ready for it's #4 seeding.
- In 1st Round Main Draw Doubles today at the Eurotel Slovak Indoor VUB Open it was a victory for the unseeded team of Maja Matevzic/Henrieta Nagyova over Fusai/Boogert: 6-2, 6-1.
- This is actually somewhat surprising, but really no big deal. Indeed, Fusai/Boogert may well be worth another try someday!
- So, Alexandra got a good Singles win, an "ok" Singles loss, and an "odd" Doubles loss. Certainly not a "great" tournament on-court in Bratislava, but hopefully some fun off-court with friends, and memories to treasure for all the fans lucky enough to witness Alexandra's wonderful Beauty and Spirit. Next year will be better!
- Allez Fusai!
-
- Friday 10/18/02
- This coming week, Alexandra is at the SEAT Open in Luxembourg, Europe (Luxembourg is a city which is also a country).
- In 1st Round Singles Qualifying, tomorrow, it will be Alexandra Fusai (unseeded, WTA ranked #197) vs. Antonella Serra-Zanetti (seeded #8, WTA ranked #100).
- Technically, Alexandra will be the "underdog", but I see Alexandra fully capable of winning this: with guile, wiles, and Spirit!
- And I suspect that the crowd will be "with" Alexandra, from beginning to end - and that can be helpful! For some reason, I think Luxembourg likes Alexandra A LOT! (I UNDERSTAND!)
- Allez Fusai!
-
- Saturday 10/19/02
- Well, it was a not-good day on the court in Luxembourg for Alexandra today. Oh well....
- In 1st Round Singles Qualifying at the Seat Open it was Antonella Serra-Zanetti (seeded #8, WTA ranked #100) d. Alexandra Fusai (unseeded, WTA ranked #197): 6-1, 6-1. Oh well....
- Not really an "upset", I suppose, but a bit stunning, even so....
- Anyway, now maybe there will be some Doubles - and some Doubles wins! That would be nice!
- Allez Fusai!
-
- Sunday 10/20/02
- Good News from Luxembourg!
- Alexandra is teaming with Emilie Loit to play Doubles! YEA!
- Fusai/Loit could be a GREAT Team!
- And 1st Round will be a good test! It will be vs. the #2 seeds: Kim Clijsters/Janette Husarova (both good players, of course).
- Allez Fusai/Loit! Have fun, and WIN!
-
- Tuesday 10/22/02
- Well, some OK news from Luxembourg today....
- In 1st Round Main Draw Doubles, today, at the SEAT Open, it was Alexandra Fusai/Emilie Loit (unseeded) vs. Kim Clijsters/Janette Husarova (seeded #2). Well, Clijsters/Husarova took it: 7-6(11-9), 6-1. Oh well....
- So the crowd got to see a VERY exciting, and close, (and probably FUN! for all 4) set, with an unseeded team (including the most beautiful pro tennis player ever: Alexandra!) vs. a team of, well, a star-and-a-half. (Let's not talk about the 2nd set.....)
- Alexandra had an OK Tournament in Luxembourg this year: not great, but not awful.
- The crowd saw her play 2 matches, including 1 clearly very good set.
- And they probably saw her practice for 4 days - and just wandering around.
- Some had seen Alexandra before, and enjoyed seeing her Beauty and Spirit again - others had never seen her before and enjoyed her Beauty and Spirit for the 1st time - certainly all enjoyed her clearly excellent play in today's 1st set.
- Allez Fusai!
-
- Friday 11/22/02

- I hope today is your Happiest Birthday Ever, SO FAR!!
- Allez Fusai!!

- (There are still details of some matches yet to be posted, though....)
- (An old interview is also being posted tonight - from 11/22/97.)
